Roar 4 Change have come forward to launch awards on the work of Shri Shiv Kumar Batalvi Ji globally for all ages.
Legendary Punjabi poet Shri Shiv Kumar Batalvi Ji is the youngest-ever recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award for his epic verse play Loona. He won this award in 1967, at only 30 years old. He is still the youngest recipient of the award to date. Shri Shiv Kumar Batalvi Ji has about 10 publications to his credit besides several articles, some of which were published later by Smt. Arun Batalvi Ji, his wife.
Smt. Arun Batalvi Ji said, “We appreciate the work of Roar 4 Change team and feel that their genuine effort to promote Punjabi literature will reignite passion for Punjabi literature world-wide. My children and I believe that this award will help reconnect people with Shiv’s poetry.”
Baljit Singh, Roar 4 Change Program Director said, “It is an honor for Roar 4 Change and blessing from Smt. Arun Batalvi Ji to acknowledge our humble efforts. We believe this effort will bring the work of Shri Shiv Kumar Batalvi Ji closer to our hearts. We urge all the participants to pick any work of Shri Shiv Kumar Batalvi Ji and make an effort to write what you understand and what it means to you. Please summarize your understanding in one page. One can pick any poetry or book of Shri Shiv Kumar Batalvi Ji. This will be a yearly award and all the entries received by December each year will be evaluated and the winners will be announced on May of the following year. We also have composed a five-member award council that will recommend the process and will be the judge for the final selection of the participants for the award. Roar 4 Change team will select 25 best entries each year which will then be presented to the award council for the final selection. Our goal is to select one best winner each year who will receive the award. The award will be a FREE trip overseas for a Punjabi Conference. If the award is won by a participant from Asia, we will be assisting them for a FREE trip to USA or Canada for one of the Punjabi Conferences. And if the award is won by a participant from the USA / Canada / Europe, the participant will receive a FREE trip to a Punjabi conference in India. Roar 4 Change team will assist in all the process from getting the passport to the visa for the winner.”
